East Preston Early Learning Centres, formerly known as East Preston Daycare, was established in 1974 and is a community-based organization providing fully licensed, high-quality early learning and child care to children from 3 months to 11 years of age. With decades of experience rooted in care, connection, and community, we are proud to support children and families across the Halifax Regional Municipality.

We offer four Early Learning locations, including our original centre in East Preston, a School-Age Program at the East Preston Recreation Centre, a location in Porter’s Lake, and a newer location on Main Street in Dartmouth. Each location provides a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

Our programming is guided by an emergent, play-based curriculum that responds to each child’s individual interests, strengths, and developmental needs. Children are encouraged to explore, discover, and learn side-by-side—building independence while developing meaningful relationships and a strong sense of community.

We provide full meal and snack services, with food prepared from scratch with care in our on-site kitchens, and we accommodate dietary restrictions and individual needs. All educators and child care providers complete extensive background checks and maintain up-to-date First Aid and CPR certification, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

East Preston Early Learning Centres is open to families throughout HRM and is deeply proud of the strong sense of belonging we foster. Many children begin their journey with us as infants and continue through our programs over the years—often returning later as parents and accessing supports through our Family Resource Centre. This continuity reflects the trust, shared experiences, and lasting relationships we build together.
